The eastbound lanes of Highway 403 in Hamilton have been reopened following a huge mudslide Friday morning.

A spokesperson for the Ontario Provincial Police tweeted shortly after 6 p.m. that the eastbound lanes, between Main Street East and York Boulevard, have been cleared.

Earlier in the day, a wall of mud, water and trees was blocking the highway. According to Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, the mudslide was caused by a broken water main.

He said the mud was more than half a metre deep in some places along the highway at one point.

OPP say the westbound ramp to York Boulevard remains closed.
