A major construction project on Dufferin Street has been completed three weeks earlier than initially estimated.

All lanes of traffic between Lawrence Avenue and Highway 401 are now open, the City of Toronto said in a statement sent to media on Thursday.

Resurfacing and sidewalk repair work on the 1.3-kilometre stretch of Dufferin began in May, reducing traffic to one lane in each direction.

During the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games, construction was only completed at night, so all lanes could be open during the day. When the Games were over, round-the-clock work resumed.

The project was expected to be completed on Oct. 30, but finished three weeks ahead of schedule.

Dufferin has been ranked among the top 10 worst roads in Ontario for the last four years. From 2011 to 2014, it was voted as the province's worst road in CAA South Central Ontario's annual contest. It ranked third this year, behind two streets in Timmins, Ont.
