Drivers will need to make detours around the Don Valley Parkway this weekend as the thoroughfare is closed for annual spring maintenance.

Starting on Saturday at 2 a.m. the DVP will close in both directions from Hwy. 401 in the north to the Gardiner Expressway at the southern end.  It will reopen on Monday at 5 a.m.

Repair crews will be doing demolition work at the Dundas St. E. bridge and TTC track beams will be replaced at the Bloor Viaduct.

Regular maintenance will include cleaning of catch-basins, asphalt repairs and maintenance of guardrails and signs.

This is the first of three full closures of the DVP this season.  It will close again on June 3 for the annual Ride for the Heart fundraiser by the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Motorists are advised to use Victoria Park Ave., Don Mills Rd., Bayview Ave. and Kingston Rd. as alternate routes in and out of the city's downtown core.
