A man in his 20s is facing charges after calling police for help to get his vehicle started.

York Regional Police said they received a call shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday from a man asking for help in King Township.

The man told police he was in the area of Bathurst Street and King Road, and the person who took the call could hear an engine revving in the background.

Officers located the vehicle on King Road, noting that it was running and its lights and windshield wipers were on. They spoke to the driver, who officers said "was showing obvious signs of being impaired by alcohol."

The driver was arrested and taken to a police station, where he was given a breath test. Police said he was over the legal limit.

As a result, the 27-year-old has been charged with impaired care or control, and impaired care or control over 80.

Impaired care or control is a charge laid when drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs attempt to operate a vehicle. The vehicle does not need to be moving for the charge to apply, police said.
