Carly the dog is being credited for possibly saving her owner’s life after a house lit up in flames on Friday afternoon in Brooklin, Ont.

A large fire engulfed a luxury home on Sandhill Court, in the Columbus Road West and Ashburn Road area, around 1 p.m.

The home owner was asleep at the time when the house erupted in flames but Carly barked until he woke up and fled to safety.

Antoinette Curley was out at the time of the fire but says their dog “detected the smoke” and saved her husband’s life.

“She just wasn’t going to give up, she just kept barking and barking, knowing there was something horrible happening upstairs,” Antoinette said outside her home.

“My husband sleeps every deeply,” she added. “He didn’t hear anything, he didn’t hear the fire alarms.”

Fire officials say flames were coming through the window and roof when they arrived on scene. They’re continuing to investigate the cause of the blaze.
