Firefighters in Brampton managed to save a German Shepherd Tuesday that had fallen through the ice.

CTV Toronto’s chopper filmed the dramatic rescue, which took place in the Mayfield Road and Heart Lake Road area of Brampton.

Two firefighters in special suits carried a small rescue device known as a Stokes basket out onto the surface of the pond. The ice started breaking around them, so they got down on their hands and knees and crawled toward the open water. The dog soon swam toward them and climbed up onto the basket, which the firefighters pulled ashore.

The dog was shaking and cold, but was doing well after spending some time in a warm blanket, officials said.

However, the dog had no identification, so they were not immediately able to find the owner.
