A marathon 30-hour-long Diwali celebration in Toronto is being billed as the largest ever South Asian festival in North America.

The event, called the Mahautsav, which celebrates the Indian festival of lights, kicked off at 5:30 p.m. Friday and lasts until 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

Some of the biggest names in Bollywood are attending the event at the Rogers Centre this weekend.

The multimillion-dollar event boasts hours of concerts, dance performances, comedians, lectures and laser shows.

Organizers hope to set a new world record for the longest continuous running indoor festival in the world.

Organizers say Diwali is celebrated in India, the Caribbean and many other countries, with as much enthusiasm as Christmas and Mahautsav brings awareness of Diwali to Toronto and North America.
