KAWARTHA LAKES, Ont. -- A decision is expected next month in the appeal of a controversial wind energy project near the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Final arguments were heard Friday at the Environmental Review Tribunal on the proposed Sumac Ridge Wind Project near Pontypool, Ont.

The project is one of four proposed by developer wpd Canada, to be located on the Oak Ridges Moraine.

Those opposed to the project said it should never have been approved to be built on the moraine.

City of Kawartha Lakes Coun. Heather Stauble says the moraine is an environmentally protected area with restrictions prohibiting hazardous material and the refuelling or transferring of materials.

A decision by the tribunal is expected by Feb. 19.
