Toronto police are investigating the murder of a 22-year-old man after his body was found by a passerby in a Scarborough park.

The man's body was found in a heavily wooded area of McCowan Park, located near Eglinton Avenue East and Danforth Road, shortly before 10 a.m. on Monday. At the time, police said the death was suspicious. On Wednesday, officers announced that the death had been deemed a homicide as the victim had experienced "obvious trauma."

In a news conference Wednesday morning, police said the man has been identified as Nitiyanand Gary Singh, who was reported missing by his family on Saturday. He was last seen in the area of the park on Thursday, May 21, shortly before midnight.

He had been sending text messages to friends and family that night, and the last message received was sent around 1 a.m. on Friday.

"Today I'm appealing for any witnesses or any members of the public who have any information regarding this homicide," Det. Mike Carbone told reporters.

"We are looking to speak to anyone who had any contact with Mr. Singh."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the homicide squad at 416-808-7400, or by calling Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477 (TIPS).
