A man in his 40s has been charged after a small dog was allegedly attacked by four larger dogs who were off-leash in a Toronto park.

Police said the attack occurred at Centennial Park, located near Eglinton Avenue West and Renforth Drive in Etobicoke, on the morning of March 9.

An 81-year-old man was walking his 15-pound dachshund, named "Dacky," in the park when they approached another man walking with four large dogs, police said.

The larger dogs allegedly attacked the dachshund, which succumbed to its injuries. The man retrieved the larger dogs and walked off, police said.

On Wednesday, police said in a statement that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the attack.

Kiriakos (Kirk) Nendos, 46, of Toronto, has been charged with mischief, for interfering with the lawful enjoyment of property.

Following his arrest, Toronto Animal Services officers executed a search warrant and seized five dogs from Nendos.
