The massive Chapters Festival Hall bookstore located at John and Richmond Streets in downtown Toronto will be closing at the end of May, the chain’s parent company has confirmed.
"After lengthy negotiations, we have made the difficult decision not to renew our lease for Chapters Festival Hall at John and Richmond in Toronto," Janet Eger, an Indigo spokesperson, told CTV Toronto in an email.
The store was located under the Scotiabank Theatre in the heart of the city’s entertainment district. It is slated to close on May 30.
Eger said that the company is actively looking for real-estate options in downtown Toronto, Bloor West Village as well as Oakville.
In February, another Chapters store at Runnymede and Bloor, housed in an old historic theatre, closed after Indigo was unable to renew the lease.
