Canadian border service agents have arrested three Mississauga residents on 37 charges of immigration fraud, following an investigation that lasted almost a year.

The CBSA alleges that Eliza Lazaro and Cecilia Bautista, also known as Cecilia Agtarap, posed as immigration consultants since 2009.

They have been charged under the Immigration and Refugee protection Act for allegedly providing false information to clients and border officials in order to obtain Canadian visas.

Lazaro's husband, Bernabe Lazaro, has also been charged for allegedly giving false information to obtain visas.

The agency says an 11-month investigation led to the arrests.

During the investigation, witnesses told agents that Lazaro would charge clients a fee for finding them jobs in Canada and taking care of paperwork for visas and work permits.

The three have been charged with a total of 37 separate charges, including misrepresentation and human trafficking.

They appeared in court in Brampton on July 8.
