Toronto police have arrested and charged two men, and are searching for a third suspect, after a stabbing that killed one man in East York last week.

Vaughan Shears, 19, of Toronto, and a second male, a youth who cannot be identified, have been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder.

Police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for Mehmet Akkurt, the third suspect sought in the stabbing.

The incident took place near Danforth Avenue and Dawes Road shortly after 5 p.m. on Sept. 8. Two men were stabbed and rushed to hospital that evening.

"As a result of our investigation, I can confirm there was an altercation between two groups of males known to each other on Danforth Avenue on Sept. 8. I want to make it clear this was not a random act of violence," Homicide Det. Rob North told reporters at a news conference on Monday.

Dwayne Goodwin, 22, of Toronto, died in hospital as a result of his injuries. The second victim has since been released from hospital.

Police are asking that anyone with information contact police at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS.
