Toronto police were called to the Don Valley Parkway Sunday morning after the Brazilian cycling team accidentally ended up on the highway while out training.

Police say the team was riding in full uniform on Eastern Avenue for a morning training session when they saw the “wide-open DVP.”

Police out patrolling the HOV lanes were quick to pull over the nine cyclists but say it was hard to communicate due to language barriers.

The team was very apologetic for the mistake, according to police, and were escorted off the highway. No charges were laid.

Pan Am organizers say the incident was an "honest mistake" as the athletes weren't familiar with the area.

"We have followed up with Brazil's National Olympic Committee to ensure they're aware of all the safe and available training options in the city," Pan Am spokesperson Neala Barton said in an email.
