The body of a man who went missing when he fell out of his canoe in Lake Ontario has been recovered, Durham Regional Police said Tuesday.

Police said that a citizen discovered a body floating near the shoreline in Lake Ontario, near the Whitby and Ajax border, on Saturday.

The body was identified as Moustafa Ahmadi, 26, of Ajax, who went missing after his canoe tipped on Sunday, Aug. 5, at around 10:30 p.m.

Ahmadi was with a 28-year-old male relative when their canoe flipped.

Both men were wearing life jackets and the relative made it to shore and called for help.

The accident prompted a two-day search for Ahmadi, using coast guard ships and military aircraft.

Ahmadi’s family and friends also launched their own search along the shoreline.
