Police have reopened a portion of Bay Street after a suspicious package found at an office building prompted an evacuation.

The item was located at 10 Bay Street, near Queens Quay, at around 9 a.m.

Toronto Police Const. Craig Blister told reporters Tuesday that officers evacuated three floors of the building as a precaution.

“My understanding, at this point, is that it was (found) in an office and when they opened it, there was some concern about its contents,” he said.

“They have gone upstairs and had a look and determined that there is no immediate threat to public safety. Now the investigation is still ongoing, but we’re going to be opening up the area.”

Queens Quay was briefly closed in both directions from York Street to Bay Street. It reopened shortly after 11 a.m.

No injuries have been reported.

The chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives team (CBRNE) were called to the building and are currently trying to determine what the package is.

The three floors of the building have since reopened and employees are allowed to return.
