Police have arrested a man suspected in an attempted robbery aboard a GO train on Tuesday night.

Officers said they were called to the GO Transit tracks in the area just north of Birchmount Road and Danforth Avenue shortly before 10:30 p.m.

It was reported that a male suspect had tried to rob a female passenger, but was unsuccessful. The suspect then pulled the train's emergency brake, pried a door open and ran off down the tracks, police said.

The victim had several scratches on her face but received no major injuries.

Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins said the investigation shut down the tracks for several hours on Tuesday night.

Police said Thursday that the suspect, 28, was taken into custody in Scarborough after he was recognized by an officer. Tyson Shuffler is facing a number of charges, including armed robbery and assault with a weapon.
