Arrest made in New Year's Day hit-and-run

Police have arrested a man wanted in a New Year's Day hit-and-run that left a seven-year-old boy dead.
Jacob Favila, of Ajax, was killed when the van he was travelling in was rear-ended by a Hummer in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Dixie Road late in the afternoon of Jan. 1.
The Hummer sped away from the scene of the accident and was found abandoned on Dixie Road a short time later.
On Friday police arrested Jose Olmedo Renteria, 30, without incident on Highway 401 near Cobourg.
Renteria is charged with dangerous driving causing death, criminal negligence causing death and failure to remain at the scene of an accident in connection with the incident.
