A man in his 20s turned himself in after seeing his image circulating in the media in connection with a sexual assault case.

A teenager reported the assault at a Walmart in Bowmanville, at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 30. The 13-year-old told Durham Regional Police that the man who assaulted her fled the store on foot.

Investigators reviewed security camera footage and released a photo of the suspect, hoping he'd be identified.

The images were circulated by the media, and the man was identified, police said in a statement on Thursday.

A 29-year-old Bowmanville man turned himself in to police in Oshawa on Wednesday, the statement said. He has been charged with sexual assault.
