Through the summer months, Toronto plays host to a range of festivals that celebrate the city’s diversity and showcase local talent.

Not a bad way to spend a summer evening or weekend if you can catch one of these events. Here’s what is coming up in June:

Waterfront Blues Festival

  • Showcasing Canadian and international blues talent

Unionville Village Festival

  • Date: May 31 – June 2, 2013
  • Celebrating 43rd anniversary
  • Live music, all-day market and various activities
  • Saturday: Festival parade, duck race and fireworks at night
  • Sunday: 5km/10km run, dog contest, karaoke contest, hot air balloon rides, treasure hunt and face-painting

Life Cycles

  • Date: June 6 – 9, 2013
  • Price: Free
  • Part of Toronto Bike Month
  • Observing the city’s cycling culture with a four-day festival
  • Features interactive art including large-scale photography, video installations, stop motion and interactive stations

Toronto Tango Festival

  • Date: June 6 – 9, 2013
  • Location: Lithuanian Hall
  • Price range: $30 - $275
  • Get a chance to learn Argentina tango through workshops and performances  

Woofstock

  • Date: June 8 – 9, 2013
  • Location: St. Lawrence Market
  • Entertainment, contests and consumer showcase for the dog lovers
  • Canine fashions, furnishings, products and food on display
  • Dogs compete in obstacle course and there’s a doggie fashion show

NXNE – North by Northeast

  • Date: June 10 – 16, 2013
  • Price range: $20 - $275
  • Showcases best new music and film by independent creators and producers

Luminato 2013

  • Date: June 14 – 23, 2013
  • Location: David Pecaut Square is the hub
  • Includes art, theatre, film, dance, music and literary by international artists, playwrights and filmmakers

Taste of Little Italy

  • Date: June 14 – 16, 2013
  • Price: Free
  • Location: College Street between Bathurst and Shaw Streets
  • Experience Italian culture by enjoying featured cuisine and cocktails

TD Toronto Jazz Festival

  • Date: June 20 – 29, 2013
  • Various locations
  • Jazz aficionados will get a chance to see Canadian and international acts perform

Open Roof Festival

  • Date: June 20 – August 22, 2013
  • Location: 175 Queens Quay Blvd East
  • Film, music and refreshments to Toronto’s rooftops all summer
  • Features independent films and local bands

Pride Week 2013

  • Date: June 21 – 30, 2013
  • The 33rd annual Pride Parade tales place on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Bloor and Church Streets
  • The Dyke March will take place on Saturday, June 29, 2013
  • The Trans Pride March will take place on Friday, June 28, 2013
  • Arts and culture festival celebrates diverse sexual and gender identities

Toronto International Dragon Boat Race

  • Date: June 22 – 23, 2013
  • Location: Centre Island
  • Over 200 Canadian and international teams are expected to take part in this two-day event

Toronto Ribfest

  • Date: June 28 – July 1, 2013
  • Location: Centennial Park
  • Joint Canada Day festival and barbecue competition hosted by the Rotary Club of Etobicoke
  • Features carnival rides, live music, midway games, climbing wall, pony rides and fireworks

Digital Dreams Music Festival

  • Date: June 29 – 30, 2013
  • Location: Molson Canadian Amphitheatre
  • Price: $152
  • Two-day electronic music festival featuring Canadian and international DJs
