Through the summer months, Toronto plays host to a range of festivals that celebrate the city’s diversity and showcase local talent.

Not a bad way to spend a summer evening or weekend if you can catch one of these events. Here’s what is coming up in August:

VELD Music Festival

Grove Music Festival

  • Date: August 3, 2013
  • Location: Fort York: Garrison Common

Summer Works Performance Festival

  • Date: August 8 – 18, 2013
  • Price: $15 per performance
  • Celebrates original scriptwriter with plays in public places
  • More than 30 plays, off-site performances and workshops of plays

Wakestock

  • Date: August 9 – 11, 2013
  • Canada’s largest action sports and music festival
  • Three-day beach festival features wakeboarding challenges, live music from Death From Above 1979, The Sheepdogs and more

Taste of the Danforth

  • Date: August 9 – 11, 2013
  • Location: Greektown on the Danforth
  • Greek cuisine like souvlaki and spanakopita
  • Street festival with tons of family activities, musical performances and traditional Greek dancing

Canadian National Exhibition (CNE)

  • Date: August 16 – September 2, 2013
  • Location: CNE
  • Price range: $16, Seniors: $12, Children (13 and under): $12, Children 4 and under: Free
  • Amusement park rides, parades, live entertainment and food
  • The Canadian International Air show: Pilots perform dare-devil loop-de-loops and maneuvers

Sail-In Cinema

  • Date: August 16 -18, 2013
  • Location: Sugar Beach
  • Price: Free
  • Outdoor movie theatre after dark
  • Watch from a boat in the harbour or stay on dry land for this truly unique experience

Buskerfest

  • Date: August 22 – 25, 2013
  • Location: Downtown Yonge Neighbourhood
  • Price: Free
  • Ontario’s largest street performers’ festival features musicians, sketch artists, artisans and entertainers
