A 71-year-old male cyclist who was struck by a pickup truck in east-end Toronto has died.

The collision happened in the Victoria Park Avenue and O'Connor Drive area on Tuesday, shortly after 3:15 p.m.

In a statement released on Wednesday, police say the cyclist was riding south on Victoria Park Avenue, and was attempting to cross O’Connor Drive when a Ford pickup truck hit the cyclist. The 49-year-old driver was attempting to make a right-hand turn onto O'Connor Drive from Victoria Park Avenue.

Police say the cyclist suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he later died.
