WEATHER

Environment Canada says it will be mainly cloudy today, with a 30 per cent chance of showers later this morning and afternoon. The mercury is expected to climb to a high of 12 C, and will drop to a low of 3 C Wednesday night.

TRAFFIC

Morning traffic is moving slowly from Etobicoke into the downtown core. The eastbound Gardiner Expressway is slow from Royal York Road to Strachan Avenue. Westbound, the Gardiner is slow from Jarvis Street to Strachan.

Further north, Highway 401 mimics the same traffic patterns. Drivers are moving very slowly from Dixie Road to Bathurst Street eastbound. Westbound, traffic is slow from Meadowvale Road to Allen Road, with the highest concentration between Morningside Avenue and McCowan Road.

Drivers heading south on Highway 404 are barely moving from Steeles Avenue to the 401. Southbound traffic along the Don Valley Parkway is nearly as bad, with traffic moving slowly from the 401 almost to the Gardiner. Northbound, vehicles are moving slowly from the Bayview exit up to York Mills Road.

'Kid at heart': Cirillo's family share fond memories of young soldier

Cpl. Nathan Cirillo has been honoured with a regimental funeral attended by dignitaries, friends and family including his young son. His cousin, Jenny Holland, described him as someone who was sincere and helpful. "Nathan may have looked like a big, tough man, but he was such a kid at heart," she said.

Whitby nursing home staff hailed as heroes

Staff members at a Whitby, Ont. nursing home are being called heroes after they helped nearly 200 seniors escape a fire that leveled an entire wing. The fire broke out Monday morning, but firefighters were still watching for hotspots on Tuesday. Fairview Lodge was quickly evacuated of its 192 residents. No one was seriously injured. Area residents say they were "impressed" by how calmly staff members helped the residents exit the building.

The Toronto Maple Leafs tied a franchise record for the fewest shots allowed in game when they beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-0 last night.
