Deputy Chief Mark Saunders will be named Toronto’s next chief of police, CTV Toronto has confirmed. Saunders is a 32-year veteran of the Toronto Police Service.

Durham high schools closed as strike begins

Public high schools in Durham will be closed after the teachers' union and the Durham District School Board announced on the weekend that they were unable to reach an agreement. After using "using obscene language in a public setting," the Toronto Raptors general manager, Masai Ujiri, has been fined US$35,000. The incident happened at a fan rally Saturday before Toronto hosted Washington in Game 1 of a first-round NBA playoff series. The Raptors organization has also been fined an additional US$25,000.

The Toronto Blue Jays fell 5-2 against the Atlanta Braves Sunday afternoon in Toronto. They’re playing again tomorrow against the Orioles.
