The Toronto area saw a surge of Liberal support during this election. Here's a look at the results in some of the GTA's most contested ridings:

Spadina-Fort York

Winner: Adam Vaughan (Liberal)

Other candidates:
Conservative: Sabrina Zuniga
NDP: Olivia Chow
Green: Sharon Danley

Spadina-Fork York was one of Toronto’s new ridings for this election. This riding was expected to be one of the closest races in the GTA between the NDP’s Olivia Chow and Liberal incumbent Adam Vaughan, but Vaughan ended up winning 55.7 per cent of the vote while Chow only got 24.6 per cent for in an unexpected landslide victory.

Etobicoke Centre

Winner: Borys Wrzesnewskyj (Liberal)

Other candidates:
Conservative: Ted Opitz (I)
NDP: Tanya De Mello
Green: Shawn Rizvi

Located on the Western edge of the city, Etobicoke Centre has switched hands again from the Conservative MP Ted Optiz to Liberal Borys Wrzesnewskyj who was elected by more than 7,000 votes. Wrzesnewskyj also represented Etobicoke Centre between 2004 and 2011.

Winner: James Maloney (Liberal)

Other candidates:
Conservative: Bernard Trottier (I)
