One person was injured when three TTC streetcars collided and became stuck in the city's east end.

The crash was reported at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Friday, on Queen Street just west of the Don River.

Police said the collision occurred when an eastbound streetcar suddenly lost power while heading up the hill at River Street. The car rolled backwards, striking the car behind it. The second car was pushed back into a third.

Paramedics were called to the scene, and one person was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

TTC spokesperson Danny Nicholson said crews were working with welding torches to cut two of the "sandwiched" streetcars apart. Eastbound streetcar traffic was affected by the crash until the cars could be separated and removed from the scene.

The 501 Queen streetcar route was diverting around the scene via Parliament Street, Dundas Street East and Broadview Avenue, but regular service has resumed.
