Two children were rushed to hospital in serious condition following a possible near-drowning incident at Bluffers Park Beach on Saturday morning.

Lifeguards just starting their shifts ran into the water around 11 a.m. when family members of the two children – a 12-year-old girl and 10-year-old boy – started shouting for help.

Emergency crews were called to the Scarborough-area park at approximately 11:25 a.m., after receiving a call, Toronto Fire Capt. Mike Strapko said.

The girl had no vital signs when she was pulled from the water, Toronto Paramedic Services said, but began breathing once the ambulance arrived at Sick Kids Hospital. Her condition is considered serious, police said.

The boy, who was pulled from the water conscious and breathing, is in stable condition, according to police.

The two victims are siblings, family members said.

A cousin of the victims said she jumped in the water when she realized they were in danger.

“I tried to save them but it was really hard,” Alyssa Borromaeo told CTV Toronto. “It was just a very traumatizing moment.”
