OPP officers are investigating a drowning in Tiny Township, Ont. that claimed the life of a 17-year-old male.

The teen, who was visiting the area in the southern Georgian Bay region, was swimming with friends Saturday morning when he ran into difficulties and was removed from the water without vital signs, said police.

Neighbouring cottagers performed CPR on the teen until EMS crews arrived. The youth was pronounced dead by the coroner on the scene.

An autopsy is scheduled in Barrie next week to confirm the cause of death.
