A nine-week-old baby's tiny headstone that survived for more than a century in a parking lot behind a Toronto church has gone missing, and officials are appealing to the public to find it.

The gravestone was recently discovered along with numerous other markers behind St. John the Evangelist Church, located near Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue West. The site is being renovated and will be used by St. John the Evangelist Catholic School in the future.

Several headstones have gone missing from the site. One of them belongs to the son of Patrick and Mary Redmond, who died on March 19, 1875. According to the school, the marker was stolen in late January. Since the theft, officials have moved all of the other smaller gravestones to a secure location.

Church officials are appealing to the public to help locate the missing headstone.

"If you know of its location, the church would like it returned as (there) are plans for all the recovered markers," a statement from the school said.

A mass was held last weekend in honour of the people who were buried behind the church.
