A man has died and seven other people are in hospital following a two-vehicle collision in Mississauga.

The crash occurred on Highway 403 near East Gate Parkway, at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, police said.

A Nissan SUV and a Toyota sedan collided on the highway, though the cause of the crash is not yet known.

The SUV rolled over as a result of the crash and six people were ejected from the vehicle, Ontario Provincial Police said. Another person was thrown from the Toyota sedan.

Paramedics told reporters that eight people were taken to hospital for injuries caused by the crash. One of the people involved in the crash, a 21-year-old man, died of his injuries in hospital.

The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours as police investigated, but reopened shortly before 7 a.m. on Monday.
